Cedar Ridge Preserve is in a part of Dallas County where Blackland Prairie meets the exposed, fossil ladened, Balcones limestone escarpment. The resulting hilly terrain, heavily wooded areas, and beautiful prairies cannot generally be found at one single site. As a result, the Preserve is a popular destination for school field trips, hikers, bird watchers, nature lovers, and people who just want to get away from the big city. The Preserve also provides safe harbor for threatened and endangered plants animals and habitats.
Everyone who comes to the Preserve has access to a challenging trail system that is unsurpassed in North Texas. Visitors can enjoy the serenity and beauty of the area while experiencing the varied wildlife and habitats -- at no charge. Most visitors are not aware of the conservation activities, science and education, that also takes place at the preserve.
