This year we are in for a treat, at least two anhinga nests underway and rather close to memorial park. Not completely in the open but one should able to see the waders flying in and out to their mates, and the chicks would likely to perch at tallest and opened branches when they grow a pair of legs.
Here's the mating sequence, shouldn't be hard to tell the sex. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() See more here |

Truly wonderful!
I think the second photo would be perfect for the Rookery signage! Last edited by anna p : 04-19-2009 at 09:33 AM. |

What Anna said! What serendipity that you were there with camera when it happened, too. Great sequence -- thanks for posting!!!

Daniel: would you be willing to let me use these on the North-central Texas Birding pages at http://www.nctexasbirds.com
I keep photos (like the ones I'm doing with Ken Nanney) on the sightings pages at http://www.nctexasbirds.com/sightframe.htm .They make good records for unusual area birds. If you would be willing to let me use these -fully credited of course - I would need a date for the pictures. Either way... just let me know. Jim |

Photonut, it was in the Southwestern Medical Center (SWMC) Rookery mentioned in the subject line. If you look at the thread titled something like "Tree removal at SWMC Rookery " you'll find the Campus Map showing where it is -- basically it's near the intersection of Inwood Rd and Harry Hines Blvd. If you went south on Inwood until you went under the Harry Hines bridge and then turned left at the next light you'd be there.
